Heart Disease - A Bird' s Eye View

Coronary artery diseases or CAD is the medical term given to heart disease. This is the outcome of the hardening and/or narrowing of the arteries due to various reasons, the main one of which would be high levels of bad cholesterol (LDL cholesterol). People who have this condition fall into the high risk category of developing sudden heart attacks which could be fatal.

Organic Heart Disease: It' s All About Lifestyle Choices

The number one killer of human beings is organic .....
Once the atherosclerosis sets in, the risk of heart attack will always be there. It has been observed that increasing levels of HDL cholesterol can control and even reverse this. This good cholesterol' actively cleans the plaque (the built-up matter on the inside of the walls of the arteries) and sends it to the liver to be disposed off. In this way, it reduces the risk of stroke or heart attack.

It is recommended that cholesterol tests should be done at least every three to five years after a person reaches 30 years of age. This would ensure that you know the exact time when atherosclerosis sets and so curative and preventive measures for heart disease can be adopted in the earliest stages.

Heart Disease In Women
Heart Disease is Different in Women and Men

Men and women have obvious physical differences, but there are differences that go far deeper. .....
People who live with heart disease can slow and ever reverse the progress by adopting a healthy diet which includes fiber, fruits, whole grains, and plenty of vitamins and minerals. According to AHA, the minimum fiber intake should not be less than 25 grams per day. You will need to avoid at all costs intake of saturated fats, trans fats and hydrogenated oils which are known to speed along the progress of atherosclerosis.

In order to keep track of the heart disease risks lurking, you will need to keep close track on the cholesterol ratio. A healthy and acceptable ratio would be to have the total cholesterol no more than five times the HDL level, the total of which (HDL + LDL levels) should not exceed 200 mg/dl. You should aim at lowering the LDL cholesterol (bad cholesterol) and increase the levels of the HDL levels.

Heart disease can be mostly reversed by increasing the levels of the HDL cholesterol. This can be done by excluding to the extent possible the consumption of saturated fats, alcohol, and avoiding smoking among other things. You should include in your life style regular exercise and meditation which will help in de-stressing the mind and body.

It is very important to include exercise in your daily routine if you have developed heart disease since this is known to reverse the progress of atherosclerosis, reduce cholesterol and effectively reduce blood pressure.
